Planet Consulting Provides Revenue Integrity and Systems Conversions to Predominant European Multi-Service Operator

The Problem

A predominant European multi-service operator (MSO), providing nationwide service to more than 10 million households had two specific projects that required resolution.

First, a system conversion was identified in order to meet regulatory requirements (open item vs. balance forward). Second, the MSO needed a revenue integrity analysis to ensure accurate cash flow valuation due to a potential discrepancy between the accounts receivable and billing system.

These projects posed many challenges including:

  • A four way reconciliation of financial transactions that needed to be performed between the MSO’s:
  • Customer care and billing systems

    Accounting system,

    Electronic payment processes

    Bank

  • Converting and migrating data from the accounts receivable platform to the MSO’s SAP system. The database contained over 100 million transactions representing almost two years of transaction history.
  • Multi-currency reconciliation.
  • Coordination of internationally-based resources.

The Solution

Planet Consulting utilized leading extract transform load (ETL) software and proven project management practices to model the MSO’s massive amounts of disparate data. A working version of the solution was delivered within two weeks. Subsequent versions of the solution, resulting from multiple requirements amendments, were consistently delivered on time to specification. In addition, a custom software module was defined and developed to manage the dynamic requirements and the on-going generation of system documentation to meet both the MSO and auditor requirements.

The Benefits

The solutions designed and implemented by Planet Consulting met aggressive project timelines with a 100 percent success rate. All accounts and transactions were segmented by the MSO’s defined business rules with 100% audit ability. With the help of Planet Consulting, the MSO was also able to identify and recover missing revenue totaling approximately $USD 5 million from the previous year. Furthermore, the solution will prevent approximately $10 million per year in revenue leakage. Planet Consulting also fully documented all processes in accordance to standards approved by a major auditing firm and the system conversion was certified by SAP. Finally, 100 percent reconciliation was achieved on all transactions that were migrated from and converted to the SAP system.
