Charter Communications, Inc. is the third-largest publicly traded cable operator in the U.S., serving approximately 5.7 million customers in 29 states. Charter offers a full range of advanced communication services, including video, high-speed Internet, and telephone. Individually or combined in a bundle, these services provide customers with tremendous value in the form of entertainment, information, and their electronic connections to the world.
The Problem
Charter Communications needed to develop common business parameters and standards among its various sites to address inconsistencies with customer data, site tracking and operational processes. The lack of standards and common business parameters was causing difficulties with reporting and analysis, and resulted in ineffective use of Charter’s billing system options.
The Solution
Planet Consulting assembled a project team that worked with Charter’s corporate team to ensure timely implementation of project deliverables, which included the following:
- Define a common location within Charter for site access to standardized data fields and formats used by Charter.
- Analysis and identification of which areas within Charter’s billing system to be standardized.
- Schedule and conduct mini-training sessions with corporate and site support staff.
- Develop codes and structure to maintain standardization.
The Benefits

Planet Consulting ultimately coordinated the implementation schedule for more than 150 worksites, and ensured that all timelines and benchmarks were met. Charter’s billing system is now running efficiently and effectively throughout all various sites, and data inconsistencies are now a problem of the past.
